Reviews of Blackboard Learn
Alternatives Considered:
Easy and flexible learning management system.
Comments: Students are satisfied with it.
Pros:
It has very strong and fast customer support service.
Cons:
It's bit costly and there are no free version.
An Honest Review of Blackboard
Pros:
Blackboard was the tool faculty used most to relay any information about grades, curriculum changes, and other announcements. It made it easier to navigate individual courses, especially in the circumstances in which I needed to miss class. I used Blackboard for four years and could not have survived college without it.
Cons:
I think the biggest con of Blackboard Learn is the esthetics. Unlike other learning management systems such as Canvas, the Blackboard Learn interface simply feels a little more outdated. That being said, with this being my main con, it was overall a wonderful tool in my undergraduate education.
Alternatives Considered:
Blackboard learn- a need for updates
Pros:
Easy to create tests and assessments and grading them. Things were laid out and easy to find.
Cons:
Looks old and outdated. Needs to be cleaner and conscise.
Blackboard Learn
Pros:
The flexibility to update information and make changes to coursework is good. If a student publishes an assignment, such as a paper, incorrectly I am able to reset the assignment on an individual basis without opening it up to the entire class.
Cons:
With the more frequent use of mobile devices, Blackboard needs to be more mobile-friendly. Some screens, such as the grade book, offer limited functionality when accessed on a mobile device such as an iPad.
Easy for daily use
Comments: Overall, the ease of use and the ability to have so much content in one place makes it a great product.
Pros:
Blackboard learn is easy to use both for teachers and students.
Cons:
Sometimes you have to use four or five clicks to get where you want to go.
Blackboard Daily!
Comments: Very happy with the ease of use and quickness to complete work.
Pros:
Blackboard is so easy to use. Posting assignments, having discussions and accessing materials is so simple to do.
Cons:
Nothing was wrong with the program itself.
Crissssp and Clean
Pros:
The layout, the crispy clean look and feel it has. Blackboard has come along way and they just keep getting better and better.
Cons:
I feel like there was something missing that I couldn't put my finger one but overall such a great product!
Software that manages higher education
Pros:
Features allow you to have access to learning resources such as online textbooks as well as keep track of notes lecturers have made available to you.
Cons:
There is nothing I dislike about blackboard
A helpful LMS from the student perspective.
Comments: I think that overall it was functional and did the job. I think there is room for improvement, but it functions in the way you'd expect from an LMS.
Pros:
I liked that you could set it to send reminders about when upcoming assignments were due. It was very helpful from that perspective.
Cons:
I thought the user interface was clunky and needed work. It was sometimes hard to navigate and there would often be times where students would have to ask how to do something in the platform.
Alternatives Considered:
Industry Standard LMS
Comments: Blackboard integrated seamlessly with our current system, Microsoft Teams
Pros:
With an established ecosystem and many tools available, Blackboard is my go to LMS for schools and other educational institutions
Cons:
Blackboard is a bit pricey, however you get a polished piece of software.
Alternatives Considered:
Blackboard Learn for Aiken Technical College's Embedded Librarian Program
Comments: I post announcements about our Library's online resources and also monitor a Discussion Board thread called "Ask a Librarian." I get plenty of questions in the Discussion Board and also in response to the announcements, especially closer to assignment due dates.
Pros:
I can post a variety of media in the Announcements section and in the Content Areas. The more options I can give students to access the information they need, the better.
Cons:
There may be a way to do this and I haven't figured out how yet, but I would like to be able to transfer a whole content area from one course to another instead of starting from scratch each time.
Blackboard, learn in a complex fashion
Comments: If you compare this to operating systems, blackboard provides a more linux/windows experience. The platform is robust and complex with a lot to offer, but this pro at the same time makes it a downside since it is not user friendly compared to other market competitors. As a student who used it for 3+ years. I understand and appreciate what the platform provides but I prefer simplicity over complexity.
Pros:
The big scale design of the platform is ideal to have all your academic needs in one. Access to a combine calendar allowing for easy visualization of homeworks, projects and tasks. Easy view of currents classes and course materials. With the years of experience this platform is reliable and complete.
Cons:
Even though the complexity is robust, sometimes it can be overwhelming for students and ease of access across the platform is not the best compared to other market competitors.
An effective tool, worth the cost
Pros:
Blackboard is a well-created product that is easy to navigate for both administrators and students. It was intuitive to follow the flow a path to find content needed at a given time. There was no confusion to find lecture notes, grades, or messages from an administrator. I have used multiple learning management systems, and BBL is my favorite
Cons:
Blackboard was more costly than other competitors, so our organization had to transition tools because of this.
Blackboard learn
Comments: Useful as a student to have assessments and feedback from multiple courses in one place
Pros:
Easy to use and have multiple modules from different courses all accessible in one place which helps me stay organised
Cons:
Could be better if the interface was more intuitive or there were more demonstrations on how to use it as a student
Used as a Student
Pros:
All of my online college courses were in Blackboard.
Cons:
If you use the back button during a quiz sometimes it would end your quiz
Blackboard Learn is a Bit Outdated
Comments: Considering the price point and many good features, this is still a good platform to manage online courses. There are just some features that need innovation.
Pros:
The ease of use is a very great feature of this software. Adding and managing online courses and lessons is a breeze. The import/export function of the test maker built in the software is also a plus.
Cons:
The interface feels a little bit outdated as compared to other LMS.
Blackboard Learn experience
Comments: My overall experience with this software is great and makes me more efficient in learning
Pros:
What I like most about this software is that it is perfect for asynchronous learning and easy to navigate as well
Cons:
None that I can think of in this software
Blackboard Learn Review
Pros:
I use it for school and it is very user friendly and helpful.
Cons:
Nothing, it is good as is. I do not further comments
Blackboard for online learning
Comments: I think it's a good product for virtual learning. My students feel comfortable navigating the system and monitoring progress.
Pros:
It is easy to add content. I like the way the "Plan" (calendar) is set up better than Canvas.
Cons:
You are unable to copy content, announcements, assignments and quizzes from one course to another. An administrator must do it.
From university lectures to virtual training seminars - great multipurpose tool
Pros:
Easy to set upNot a steep learning curve
Cons:
For those not too familiar with it, may find getting set up and accessing archival slides/training presentations a bit difficult
An intuitive software
Comments: The software is amazing. I have not have any problem with it even when I have had difficulties with my internet connection.
Pros:
Blackboard is one of the most easier and intuitive softwares that I have ever used. I really like it because its videoconferencing platform is really easy to use and has a very powerful tool called "Safe Assign".
Cons:
The software could improve its social learning by creating an environment where all the students enrolled in a classroom could post and share any doubts, news, and even discuss about various topics.
Blackboard Learn is an excellent Learning Management System
Pros:
Blackboard Learn has an easy to use assessment management system that allows faculty to share documents with colleagues and administrators that allow for assessing both online, hybrid, and fully in-person courses for accreditation purposes.
Cons:
Blackboard Learn has an easy to use customizable reports that are simple to generate and share with colleagues and administrators. However, I rarely use this feature but it might be good for administrators who assess faculty performance for promotion and tenure evaluations.
BB Learn-the old workhouse
Comments: I will continue to use BB Learn or soon we will be using Ultra, for as long as I have to for my job. If my job were to ask me should we keep BB or switch to another LMS - I would say SWITCH! One of the absolute worst features within BB is the Voice thread area. I used to use it and had to teach others how to use it. They (BB) decided to "improve it" a couple years ago and now it is so difficult to use that I tried to create user guides and could not get it to work and it was so complicated now, I have given up on it entirely and do not recommend that area at all for anyone to use.
Pros:
I like the powerful features and security of the program
Cons:
BB is the most frustrating program I have ever used. It was one of the 1st LMS programs-I have heard. Its design is clunky and seems to be created by someone with little UXUI experience, I mean UXUI was a field that was known only by the people in the top of their field 20+ years ago so that would make sense! The lack of logical design for buttons and search areas is aggravating. The lack of them going back and changing things for the better and getting a visual designer and UXUI person involved NOW to fix the program-is again aggravating. An example to add a user, you click on a menu item-it goes to a window on the right and there is a search field there which one is supposed to ignore and know somehow to click on a button that does not look like a button called "Find Users To Enroll". WHY, is the search field even showing? Do you know how many times if I get away form using BB for a few weeks or months I end up typing in that filed instead of a button that does not look like a button? Explaining to faculty to NOT type in the field is a constant, because your intuition thinks the design makes sense-it does not.
Blackboard Learn
Comments: Overall, using Blackboard has been a pleasure and I think it's a wonderful platform, especially to get started with if one has never had any experience with LMS. Online schooling and learning are not as easy as in-person, but this platform makes it tolerable.
Pros:
Blackboard was simple, straightforward, and easy to understand. I believe anyone could use it and get comfortable within the first 2 uses. It's adaptable and user-friendly.
Cons:
I did not like how the software had a high tendency to be unreliable. It would shut down, freeze or simply not accept work or media. I think in part, its use on the Safari web browser could be the problem as using it o Chrome did not garner the same results. I do think the platform should be reviewed on different web browsers to fix these issues and optimize the results.
Simplifies Grades, Course Communications, & Materials Distribution
Comments: There are a lot of learning management systems out there, and I've used several of them. Blackboard is my favorite. It has excellent capabilities, improves organization, and makes it very easy to communicate with students.
Pros:
Blackboard is a great tool for communicating with students, distributing course materials, and recording student grades. The "one-stop shopping" approach makes it easy for professors to stay organized in each class, and it also makes it easy for students to stay organized. When used well, Blackboard allows you to do everything from communicating with students to uploading assignment sheets to sending class announcements. As a writing professor, I especially appreciate the SafeAssign feature that checks student assignments for plagiarism. Once I started requiring my students to use SafeAssign, I found that plagiarism attempts dropped off significantly. (So did attempts to recycle papers from one course to another.) In addition, SafeAssign saves me a lot of leg work when students DO plagiarize -- it flags the suspect text as well as the source, so I don't have to hunt it down myself.
Cons:
For me, Blackboard wasn't intuitive to learn. Even after 7 years of using it nearly ever day during the semester, I had some challenges making it do what I wanted it to do. I often spent far more time than I should have trying to customize things for my courses. But, as long as I stuck to the basic features -- which are also the ones I personally found most useful/beneficial -- Blackboard was a great tool for organizing my courses and keeping students on track.
