Made for Electrical Engineers

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: I have managed to deliver high quality designs for my customers in short periods of time. Once the system is configured it's easy to use. Every detail of the design can be clearly shown on the schematics, from terminals to labels, and this reduce built time by 50% because of the level of detailing AutoCad Electrical allows to show.

Pros:

All in one software, you can do your schematics, Bill of materials, General arrangement drawings, all these connected. You change something in the schematic it auto update the Bill of Materials. You can can also lonk catalogues from suppliers.

Cons:

Licencing is a bit price compared to other software.

Professional's Choice for Automation Documentation

4.0 4 years ago

Comments: Support for AutoCAD Electrical has always been excellent from both Autodesk and the local resellers. Training is usually free and ranges in complexity. The software is focused to provide solutions to real-world industrial control systems and IC/PCB documentation.

Pros:

The interface is intuitive and is highly customizable. Includes most symbols in well defined blocks with attributes in the JIS, NEMA, and IEC standards. The new LISP editor allows the user to write and debug scripts without reloading the script each time. Automatic wire tagging and re-tagging takes the grind out of renumbering wires when a component is added. Coil and contact association is automatically created next to the rung to improve readability. Backwards compatible with previous versions of AutoCAD. Import/Export from PDF or to other software is carried out with a good degree of fidelity. Interoperability of Autodesk Inventor allows seamless ECAD/MCAD integration for automated machine design.

Cons:

Does not simulate industrial control panels (i.e. what happens when a fuse blows or a field input device changes states). This functionality is available in lower-priced software. Some functions used in basic AutoCAD do not work in AutoCAD Electrical. Often user or vendor defined blocks do not behave correctly with wire routing (point to point) connections. For example, a block for a VFD or timer relay often requires a significant amount of modification to fix wiring/connection issues. Pricing for this product has steadily increased over the years, without equivalent improvements to the software. Error reporting rarely results in a solution from Autodesk.

AutoCAD is a valuable resource for engineers and an amazing tool for students!

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: AutoCAD Electrical is actually "inside" the AutoCAD software "bundle", which is available with a special free license if you are a student. We could say that this is one of the several different resources offered by the full product, so there is plenty of tools to help you out once you acquire it! With a new installment for the year of 2020, I noticed updated features and several other tools and functions. This is an excellent tool for people in the electrical field, but also for basically any engineer wanting a reliable and sophisticated software to help with your final results... Drawing circuits, pieces, objects, blueprints, architectural plants is much better with AutoCAD and the AutoCAD Electrical certainly will make you satisfied with the outcome of projects. Support is also responsive and reliable. Overall, I am very happy with my experience utilizing this product.

Pros:

This is one of the many functions inside AutoCAD, which is a pertinent program for basically any engineer, no matter which field we are discussing. I am planning to use this tool for future research projects related to many different fields and I realized that AutoCAD Electrical is one of the many resources that I have, with great chances to be used along with other complementary functions inside AutoCAD. The fact that Autodesk offers a special license for students of one year (with the possibility of renewal) is a great incentive to try out the product as much as possible and I found it extremely positive!

Cons:

You will certainly notice the intimidating interface at first glance. This program will demand proper training if you are willing to implement an effective use of such tool in your business. It is also worth mentioning that the price of this product is somewhat expensive, so it might be hard to implement such tool under limited budget conditions. A good computer to run this program is also recommended.

Best CAD software for Electrical engineers

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: For my carrier, it's an essential part to design electrical design with a more effective and reliable design. I designed an electrical lighting system to replace the existing system in many buildings of Colombo Dockyard. For this type of task, it is very easy to use this software otherwise I have wast many hours design a proper design.

Pros:

This software has a very user-friendly interface and there are many tools to design a very effective and creative design. Also because of these tools, it is very easy to design a very complex design very easily and without wasting time.

Cons:

Sometimes for very complex design software get slowdown and for new users it difficult to understand about some tools at the beginning.

Excellent software for electrical and electronics designs.

5.0 last year

Comments: I really like using Autocad electrical for my designs because the design tools are well incorporated in this software.

Pros:

What I like most in Autocad electrical is the implementation of the programmable logic controller (PLC)., because most of the work we do and I do in the industry I mostly make us of PLCs for my designs, since it's manufacturing and it involves automation.

Cons:

I don't really feel there's something bad or not right with Autocad electrical since I have being using this software.

Comments: Very powerful software for electrical design and excellent tools for generating manufacturing documentation.

Pros:

The wide range of symbols libraries, the automatic wire numberings, components tagging and error checking. Easy to use if autocad software has been used previously

Cons:

it share a similar interface with other autocad softwares, and it would be great if they improve the interface simplifying the menu structure and making tools bars.

Great if you will use it daily

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: I found myself a little overwhelmed at first with the menus. I prefer a cleaner, more intuitive interface but you will get used to it. If you won't use it often you won't be able to memorize the menus and won't be very productive with this program.

Pros:

You can make electrical diagrams fast and clean. Most of the IEC symbols are already in the libraries so you can start right away. If you make use of templates and save synchronize configurations in all your machines all of your diagrams will have the same format and design style. Tags can be helpful to organize the project but takes a lot of discipline to implement correctly.

Cons:

Navigating the menus is not easy at first. To access many of the options/features you have to navigate several menus and is hard to remember the path to some useful but not very recurrent tools.

Great features and easy to use. Very complete software

4.0 2 years ago

Comments: It has been a great tool for our designs. It delivers a good efficiency when developing electrical projects.

Pros:

As most Autodesk softwares, AutoCAD Electrical has lots of great features that allowed us to develop our projects with high quality. It was easy to use as it comes from the AutoCAD family, and we were already using it.

Cons:

The amount of time that the software takes to load is excessive. Even with a high end computer, it takes several minutes. The software is not very friendly with 3D designs and does not snap lines.
