About Square Appointments
Square Appointments is an all-in-one scheduling POS for booking, payments, and team management.
When I opened my practice I needed an appointment system that also worked with my merchant services. Square appointments was so easy to install and navigate.
The only problem with it is that typically our clients just want black and white, yes or no, a or b.

Streamlined Appointment Scheduling
Comments: Square Appointments is great for scheduling and managing client appointments efficiently, but getting access to advanced tools requires a higher subscription level.
Pros:
I set up a client appointment, and the automatic reminder made sure they showed up on time without me needing to manually send messages.
Cons:
When I needed detailed sales reports, I realized I had to upgrade to a more expensive plan to access those features.
Best business practice
Comments: I’ve been using square since 2017 when I opened my business. I utilize CRM systems that allow me to use square as my processing too and it just has made the entire process so easy.
Pros:
I love how seamlessly I can schedule things , invoice, collect client information, and even see reports of your sales all on one easy to use app
Cons:
I believe the processing fees are average, I wish it could be more competitive.
Alternatives Considered: Acuity Scheduling
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: It was much easier to use and set up in my opinion
Keep on track with square
Comments: Easy to use information stored easy and easy to follow
Pros:
I really liked this system it was so easy to use and a great help in my business
Cons:
There was nothing to dislike it was a very good product
Square are the biggest CROOKS. VERY VERY ANGRY WITH THEM
Comments: I will not be recommending square to any of my counterparts. I went to all the effort of setting all this up. Got rejected for some reason on accepting credit cards and so they completely shut my account down and wouldn't let me log in again. Took off with my one months subscription too. And gave me no excuse as to what actually went on. Complete and utter CROOKS. and very angry about this as i barely have a minute as it is to scratch myself - very busy massage therapist. I have certs verifying i am fully trained in my field. A business rego/ABN and a business account set up with ANZ who never had an issue dealing with me. Feel i've been treated like a second class citizen, maybe because I'm from overseas ?
Pros:
Took a long time to set things up and me not being very web savvy extra effort from me to have to get done
Cons:
the live chat service. very non-helpful and rude
Alternatives Considered: Fresha
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: because a fellow business owner recommended them to me. Complete and utter waste of time. Dont waste your energy. Took me SOOOOO LONG to set up to then have my time wasted as they did.
Square Appointments is Perfect For New Business Owners
Comments: My overall experience with Square Appointments was very nice because of how easily it was for my clients to book me on Google directly. If you’re a new business owner, use Square Appointments to make your life a lot easier.
Pros:
I loved how Square has a free version that integrates with Google Business Page and my clients can set their appointments simply through my Google page. This was very convenient and made running a lash business so much easier
Cons:
I didn’t like the fact that I had to download different Square apps for different functions that I needed. For example I had to have Square Appointments setter installed and Square Payment Processor installed separately. It would be nice to do multiple functions on one Square app instead of having to install different apps every time. Also, the appointment setting section did not have a place for client to pay deposits. This was very critical for me to have, and was the main reason why I started looking for other apps that had this functionality working better on their platforms. Square said they had it but every time I tried to set it up, it didn’t work.
Alternatives Considered: Vagaro and GlossGenius
Reasons for Choosing Square Appointments: Because I wanted to take deposits from my clients and at the same time have them put their card on their profile to make checking out easier. Square Appointments interface on this functionality struggled a bit and that’s why I switched
Switched From: GlossGenius
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: Because it integrates easily with Google Business and has a free version, which is convenient when you’re just starting out as a new business owner
Squared UP My Schedule

Square has lost its grip on service
Comments: Although I was initially a loyal user of Square Appointments and had been using the platform since its launch, I ultimately made the difficult decision to switch to another service due to its limitations. While I appreciated the overall quality of the product, it was frustrating to encounter persistent issues that were not being resolved by the Square team. As a long-term customer who had generated millions of dollars of business for the company, I had hoped for more responsive and effective support from the software provider. Despite my loyalty, the unaddressed problems and limitations ultimately led me to explore other options.
Pros:
I can tell you that Square Appointments is a user-friendly platform that allows businesses to manage their appointments and bookings efficiently. It offers features such as online scheduling, automated reminders, and customer management, making it easy for businesses to streamline their operations and improve their customer experience. Its mobile app also provides convenience and flexibility for businesses on-the-go.
Cons:
The limitations of Square Appointments were a major source of frustration for me. One of the most significant issues was the inability to collect credit card information via text to secure bookings, which created extra work for both me and my customers. Additionally, the "create appointment" option was not always available, which caused inconsistencies in the booking process. The double consent requirement was another significant drawback, as it prevented me from reaching out to customers directly through the messaging feature. Instead, customers had to initiate communication, which could be inconvenient and time-consuming. Despite reporting these issues multiple times, they were not addressed, ultimately leading me to switch to another platform. One of the most significant downsides of this switch was losing the ability to send messages to my customers directly through the app, which meant that I had to use alternative methods such as phone calls or SMS. This was particularly challenging as I did not want my employees to use their personal cell numbers to contact customers.
Alternatives Considered: PayPal
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: Back in time, square had a device where one can charge the customer on the smartphone.
Square for barbershop
Comments: I’m currently searching for another appointment system that has some of the features square is lacking, there’s just many things Square should offer for the beauty industry that they don’t and for such a big company they would be such a small changes I don’t understand why they don’t initiate them.
Pros:
Square is one of the first POS systems that I used so I’m very familiar with it. It integrates easily with many different applications and has a fair amount of necessary features.
Cons:
I pay a lot of money to use square for appointments square for payroll square for POS square for marketing etc. etc. I hate that every part of Square has a different app I wish I could all just be in one and I hate how they charge for every little thing, boy they make a ton of money off me and their customer service is horrible
Alternatives Considered: Phorest and DaySmart Salon
Reasons for Choosing Square Appointments: Vagaro’s inventory management was too time consuming
Switched From: Vagaro
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: Because I’m more familiar with it
Square Appointment on the go
Comments: I enjoyed the use of the program. It was an issue when I didn't use square for all my clients. It wanted control of my schedule.
Pros:
It connects to my Instagram account and website for clients to register on their own. The interface is simple to use. Very streamline.
Cons:
That is connected to the square app. It need to connect to the app. All the appointments have to done inside square appointments.
Alternatives Considered: Calendly
Reasons for Choosing Square Appointments: To use square app for my business transactions
Switched From: Acuity Scheduling
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: It was simple to use and it connected with square app
Easy All-In-One System
Comments: I would highly recommend Square Appointments for a simple system that is elegant and user-friendly.
Pros:
Square Appointments is great because it alleviates one less account you need. It handles merchant processing, product inventory, client records, appointment deposits and more.
Cons:
I don't like the look/functionality of the embedded scheduling widget. It doesn't blend well with most websites and is very noticeably a square application. (Which I suppose is great/strong branding on their part)
Alternatives Considered: Acuity Scheduling
Reasons for Choosing Square Appointments: Schedulicity wasn't staying current with the changes in media appearance. It was starting to feel very "dated" compared to the strides other companies were taking. They also did not have a true app at the time.
Switched From: Schedulicity
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: The pricing of Square was optimal as well as their integrated payroll system for my team.
A good software, but room for improvement
Comments: I had a fantastic experience until they changed their subscription and removed the calendar sync function for free users
Pros:
-Easy to use and navigate -Basic features that are essential for Massage Therapy business
Cons:
Free system was great and then they removed the calendar sync function, unless you upgraded.
Alternatives Considered: Jane, Fresha and ClinicSense
Reasons for Switching to Square Appointments: Was free at the time with all the features I needed
Appointments made easy
Pros:
This online booking feature is phenomenal. Customers can access the site or app anytime day or night. I like the features of being able to choose from different colors or layouts. My customers also provided great feedback about receiving reminder text messages as an appointment approaches.
Cons:
Nothing is nothing I dont like about the software.
Great help for my business!
Comments: I really enjoy using my Square Appointments app. It makes my scheduling a breeze!!
Pros:
I love how quick and easy it is to add in a new appointment. I also really love that it will send my clients appointment reminders to help me avoid no-shows.
Cons:
I don’t have anything bad to say about Square Appointments. I do notice that I can’t message a client first on the “Messages” section, it only allows me to reply to a text message that they have sent me already. That would be super handy to be allowed to do.
Not my favorite for appointments
Pros:
I didn’t really enjoy it for appointments prefer it for credit card swiping
Cons:
I was not a fan of trying to integrate my my books to it. It wasn’t an easy transfer
Great appointment software
Pros:
I really enjoy Square for appointment scheduling and calendar management.
Cons:
I do not like that you cannot allow for double booking in the free version.
Square appointments is a great value
Pros:
My team loved using it right away. Our logistics were far better after implementation.
Cons:
I hadno major concerns with the service.
Great but outgrew it
Comments: Was excellent when I was a single service provider but as the spa grew we lit grew the software. It’s great for small business software but didn’t like it wasn’t salon specific enough.
Pros:
This was very user friendly software. Easy to use.
Cons:
It wasn’t great for a busy spa. Cashing out multiple services done with several service providers on one transaction wasn’t available. Reporting wasn’t strong enough either, keeping track of GCs was okay but not great.
The Best Appointment Integration for Online Booking
Comments: I was one of the first Canadian adopters, and when I noticed a small issue with the postal code field (which at the time was set up for only American zip codes), which affected a client's ability to book a session with advance payment, Square support was quick to resolve the issue, and they offered me some free transaction fee coverage for my trouble. While I eventually switched to payment at the time of service, I appreciated how quickly and deftly my issue was resolved.
Pros:
It works seamlessly, and allows me to give my clients a Covid message, and a link to my client/practitioner agreement before they even book their session. I love that it integrates Square software and my Google Calendar, so there is no duplication of effort. Though I do not use the feature, it's brilliant that it will allow me to accept payment through Square at the time clients book an appointment.
Cons:
Some of the backend features could use some tweaking. Given how many of us work from home, there should be an option for a client to choose a remote session, not just their home or my office. I always have to contact clients to find out if they want to meet at my office or work via Zoom. That choice should be one that clients can make clearly at the time of booking their session.
Love this software
Comments: My overall experience with this software is awesome and I wouldn’t use anything else it’s that great
Pros:
I love the fact that it’s easy to use and that it’s easy for my clients to use this has help my business greatly
Cons:
There is nothing I don’t like about this software because it has been great and I couldn’t live with out it
Don't know what I would do if I didn't have Square Appointments - it's a life saver!
Comments: Just a fantastic experience overall.
Pros:
Ease of use for both me and all of my clients.
Cons:
Nothing! I have not experienced any short commings
Good for only one location
Comments: It was a good experience but I needed something more flexible and more robust to grow with my business in terms of record keeping of my clients.
Pros:
Easy to use and set up. I liked that it integrated with Square Payments. Good for reminding clients of appointments by email and text.
Cons:
Increased fees for multiple locations. As a small business trying to work multiple locations to gain varied clientele it was counter productive for me to continue using it.
