Shareability and control makes Sheets stand apart from others

5.0 3 weeks ago New

Comments: Whether my files are for an organization or for personal life, the shareability and control over access is the greatest feature Sheets has. I even have my parents using it! and it's free so it's a no-brainer to use for everything. Most of the foundational elements of a spreadsheet are there but being able to work in collaboration with others is such a game-changer from the old Excel days. I know it's simple but the value is immense.

Pros:

I love how shareable the files are. The control it provides over accessibility such as edit and read access, for your org colleagues, or per individual - is excellent. and don't forget about the file versions in case you need to go back to an earlier version.

Cons:

It's different from Excel and that has taken some time to get used to. I often find myself hopping over to Google to find a certain formula or to figure out how to find a certain feature - though I did recently find out that many of the same hot keys work on Sheets as they do with Excel.

A good free alternative to Excel—if you need free

3.0 4 years ago

Comments: Since I don't use super-advanced features, I would say my experience is mostly fine, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to suggest the use of Google Sheets over Excel—I would offer it as a suggestion to someone who either didn't have the money to spend on a spreadsheets software or if their intentions were limited to relatively simple or common tasks like making a monthly budget or creating a to-do list.

Pros:

The basic features of Google Sheets are very easy to use, especially if like me, you spent the first 30 years of your life on Microsoft products. Google didn't reinvent the wheel and most of the functions used in Google have identical syntax to Excel, so you won't spend time re-learning how to sum your rows or columns. If you don't need to do anything overly complex in a spreadsheet, Sheets is an absolutely acceptable alternative to its competitor

Cons:

While the basic features are simple and easier. Some of the "intermediate" features require a bit of research. For example, basic conditional formatting is fairly straight forward—however, if you want to do even a little bit beyond basic, for example, look for duplicates (which is very straightforward in Excel), you need to apply custom functions within conditional formatting rules. And if you're not relatively informed or willing to sit through a YouTube tutorial, it's not going to be super clear what the correct answer is. Also, Google's customer service doesn't usually supply any help here; I've seen numerous threads between customers and Google where customers ask how to do very common tasks or ask about common features and the reply is a resounding "We don't do that.". I'm in a privileged position because I work at a company that actually teaches people how to use Google Sheets, so I have a free resource to teach myself tricks if necessary, but despite this, the syntax for "complicated" tasks is easy to forget and I do often find myself looking up the same things over and over again.

I Quit Excel!

5.0 3 months ago

Comments: Very pleased with Google Sheets, we use it daily , we integrate it in many business operations its part of the ecosystem.
Great software, free and lightweight.
Ticks all the boxes.
the new updates with some AI integration are cool too!

Pros:

we've used Excel for years, it being the industry standard somehow, we found Google Sheets way better. Lightweight No setup required FREE! Easy collaboration - you just need a Google account. Third party apps and Google App Scripts, to further create custom functions. It's portable and available on cloud. one more thing, the UI is clean, you do not get lost and the function names make sense.. try that with Excel! good luck!

Cons:

Only thing i could think of from past experience, wish we could Lock or Disable "editors" from downloading or exporting the sheet.

Google Sheets

5.0 3 weeks ago New

Comments: Overall, for me, Google Sheets seems to be the best choice for a sheet app. It works great for my needs and integrates nice with Google Workspace.

Pros:

The most I liked is that is an web based app, is safely stored in Google Drive and is accessible from any device. It works very fast even with large amounts of data and is not limited by the PC performance like Excel. Another great feature in my opinion is the sharing and collaborating within the sheet with ease. When sharing I have the option to give viewer or editor permission so I can allow just specific people to add data.

Cons:

After switching from Excel, I found out that not all formulas are the same.

Google Sheets excels over other spreadsheet options

5.0 2 months ago

Comments: I use Google Sheets almost exclusively over Excel as it is more user friendly. I use it for my yearbook class so I can sort students, buyers, track sales and tasks. I love how I can color in cells if items are marked.

Pros:

Google Sheets is a lifesaver for several of my classes. I am able to track data in an organized and efficient manner. The formulas are so easy to incorporate to track various things.

Cons:

One of the main drawbacks for Google Sheets is combining cells such as first & last names without deleting the information in the rest of the cells. There was an add on that would do this, but it needs to be incorporated as a default option.

Cons:

I haven't identified any cons in approx. five years of use.

Who doesn't love a good Spreadsheet?

5.0 5 years ago

Pros:

Where do you go when you need access to quality tools at no cost? You go to Google, of course! I am a Project Manager and planner who works virtually with a team that is spread across the USA, so being able to work together on one Sheet at the same time (and clearly see the revisions) is precisely what I needed. Spreadsheets are my life! I get excited about inserting formulas, collaborating on projects and sharing spreadsheets and data in real-time. Google Sheets has improved the ability to comment and chat on a Sheet directly from a free Google account. It is simple to use but can also be made as complex as any other spreadsheet creator that I know of. I keep learning more each day!

Cons:

If you're an experienced user with Excel, you might find yourself frustrated by some of the features that are not yet available in this free software; however, they are working diligently to roll out new improvements and updates regularly. You probably won't be waiting for long.

Necessary for the Writing Business

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: I was hesitant to switch to sheets since I was a long-term Excel user. However, a friend convinced me to make the switch so that I could help her with planning some social media posts for her business. Once I got started, I found that I liked how intuitive everything felt. I decided to use Sheets instead of Excel for plotting my novels after getting some experience with it. I find that it is quicker for me to chart everything I want to write. Also, it is easy to share my documents with other users, which is essential for me and my alpha reader. I will absolutely keep using Google Sheets and highly recommend making the switch if you're struggling with Excel.

Pros:

Google Sheets is easy to use - even easier than Microsoft Excel. In fact, it is the better option since the documents you create can easily be shared and edited by others. As a writer, I like creating plot outlines in Sheets. It makes the plotting process that much more coherent for me. And having it auto-save is fantastic.

Cons:

The only thing I noticed with Sheets is that it can sometimes be a bit slow to load. But, once it it is loaded, Sheets scrolls fluidly.

Very Useful and Practical Spreadsheet Program

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Overall, I use Sheets daily. It integrates flawlessly with other Google services as well as IFTTT and 3rd party workflow utilities. Google Assistant can update your spreadsheets by voice and the functionality is perfect for all of my needs. I require no other spreadsheets and I still find new functionality I wasn't aware of as I go.

Pros:

Google Sheets is a cloud based browser interface software. You don't actually have to install an application in order to use it. although, unless you're on a PC or Mac you'll want to anyway just for the ease of use of the app interface. Because of the cloud base all of your documents are accessible on any device that you can sign in on with your Google account. To use the software it stores your data in a free Google drive or if you choose a paid Google One storage service. The biggest point here is that if you choose not to have the massive storage you still get plenty of free space to hold as many of your free spreadsheets as you can imagine. So you can utilize these services for no cost and have all of the base functionality that any regular business or person would require. Combine the service delivery model with the the functionality of Sheets and you've got a winning formula to tackle most if not all of your needs. You can utilize formulas, traditional row column handling, paste in graphics or use charts etc. All in all, it has every major function available that the average user could need/want.

Cons:

The interface getting into Sheets can seem a bit clunky at times. Unless you're used to cloud based services you may find yourself frustrated desperately seeking the same button. It auto saves and you need to therefore be able to interface with the cloud to access your spreadsheet or think ahead and use the 'make available offline' option. The interface is a little different if you're coming from a Microsoft world so there will be a bit of a change you'll go through adapting.

Real Time Updates with Google Sheets!

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: Overall Google Sheets solves the problem of sending excel files back and forth from staff members. By sharing the Google Sheet with applicable staff, we are able to see real time information and we aren't left guessing which is the most "current data".

Pros:

Google sheets has always been useful to our organization. However since the pandemic hit, we've relied even more on google sheets for up to date information between staff! When we transitioned from working in the office to working from home and not many workers had access to VPN, google sheets was an easy way for us to share data in real time! Though we use other similar software, google sheets serves a different purpose for us. It is simple, direct, and we can see the changes being made real time and even add comments in the cells for us to check in with each other. Even if we do return to the office, we will still continue to use google sheets.

Cons:

Integration using this software was easy and we have not had any major issues as we know what Google Sheets is capable of doing.

A lot of features, ease of use and a great support community

4.0 4 years ago

Comments: Google Sheets is definitely the best solution I've met so far for managing a large number of spreadsheets. Based on the cloud, sharing the files is as simple as clicking a button. All necessary features are present and perfectly working. Documents are organized in your Google Drive, so they can be arranged in folders and can be browsed or searched very easily.

Pros:

The software has all the features you could think of, it's fully compatible with Microsoft Excel and documents can be shared very easily with different access policies. And if you need a template or a particular solution to a specific problem, you can count on thousands of users who post tips, templates, suggestions and the support offered by Google.

Cons:

Formatting cells is not always intuitive (especially for dates and times), and when you import data from other systems it may take a while to fix numbers and other fields (importing data into Excel or Apple Numbers is a little easier, with a formatting options menu presented right after the import). The user interface is not really appealing from a graphical point of view: it may be improved.

Why would you use something else?

4.0 4 years ago

Comments: Solid easy to use, easy to deploy. I had been using Excel for what I needed it to do for years, and it was simple switching over to sheets.

Pros:

I like how integrates with other apps I use both inside and out of the Google environment. For what I need it for it does everything that Excel does and you always have it because it is in the cloud.

Cons:

You need connectivity to access your files and you need to have a Google gmail account. Which 98% of the time is not an issue.

Most convenient and universal spreadsheet platform, great product evolution

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: All prior advantages other spreadsheet programs had like more robust formulas and being able to edit locally have now been incorporated into Google Sheets as well so Google Sheets is the leader. The collaboration among Google Sheets is the easiest of all platform since everyone already has Google accounts and the links are easily sharable where everyone can edit the document at the same time.

Pros:

Real-time collaboration with any number of peers, built-in chat, easy access from other Google Workspace products as a new feature.

Cons:

Very few issues, Google Sheets can be accessed locally now as well even without internet. All prior issues with complexity of formulas have been solved now as well, Google Sheets is great.

5.0 last year

Comments: I utilize Google Sheets more then I do any other app on my work computer.

Pros:

My favourite thing about Google Sheets is how similar the actions are compared to Excel, the fact that it is a free software, and that it is editable by multiple people since it is a document on the internet.

Cons:

What I least like about Google Sheets is that when I attempt to share something with another email, I have to give permission for them to view it after I send the document.

Better than Excel

5.0 11 months ago

Comments: I love Google Sheets. I've had an incredible experience with Google Sheets. It's super convenient and user-friendly.

Pros:

I absolutey love Google Sheets. I'm a very experienced and long-time user of Excel and have always loved it. However, after using Google Sheets - I'm a big fan. I was surprised - I figured it would be more limited than Excel, but it has all the functionality of Excel. Imports/exports into or from Excel are easy and convert easily with little to no complications. My favorite thing about Google Sheets is that it has AI integrated and can recommend formulas based on your activity. That function alone has saved me hours of work. It's very easy and user-friendly. It has a modern look and feel. I prefer the Google Sheets interface to Excel. Functions and formulas operate the same. I also love that multiple users can utilize the sheet in real-time. It also has an edit/version history of who did what and when, which is very convenient. You can also control permissions and restrict access. You can also have Google Sheets integrated into your apps and software. Honestly, I only use Google Sheets now.

Cons:

I don't have any cons for Google Sheets. The only annoying thing is it can have network issues but it's very rare and you can download the sheet and work offline.

Love Google Sheets paired with Google Drive

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: This allows me to increase productivity for the business. I can work from anywhere I have a spare moment. Updating spreadsheets on the go. If I can’t make it to the gym, I can update a workout in the spread sheet on my phone which my partner can immediately access at the gym from the iPad and display on monitor for athletes arriving thanks to sheets paired with google drive. We are a small operation and any additional cost, however small, is a big deal. Even if I had the resources, I can not see paying for Excel when Sheets meet and exceed my expectations! Again learning curve is small and intuitively obvious especially if you are a user of Excel

Pros:

Google sheets is free, easy to use and with google drive I can use it across all my tech phone, computer and iPad! It is similar enough to Microsoft Excel that the learning curve is small. One of the best things is how easy it is to use paired with Google Drive. I can up date sheets on my phone, computer or iPad and the change is universal. If I am at the doc office with time to spare. I can write a program on my phone. Then go to gym and access it on my computer to display on big screen or make modifications via my iPad or computer. I can update a sheet and allow my partner to see changes and he can make adjustments to the sheet if necessary. I am an athletic performance coach and personal trainer. I use it write my workouts, keep up with athletes assessments and measurements. Use formulas to calculate stats, BMR, calories, etc. it has become a crucial part of how I run my personal business.

Cons:

There are a few nuances that are not intuitively obvious compared to using Excel. I had trouble freezing 2 columns etc the way I would in excel. The minor inconveniences are small compared to the great savings and the flow between google software products that make this software a tool that I would not want to give up!

Just like Excel but better!

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: Google Sheets have helped me out when Microsoft Excel let me down. I had a school account for MS Suites. On one of my assignments, all of my data was lost when my tablet died. After that I found Google sheets ony Chrome book, it worked with or without the internet. I syned all the time after every edit. It works great with my invoices and school assignments. I can insert charts, format cells, find and replace data, save to my SD card or my device, attach to emails and edit Excel files to save on my device. This software I'd very useful.

Pros:

I like ease of using this software. I am a mystery shopper and most of my assignments require lists that use this format. On any assignment, I may have around 2000 grocery items to locate and update. I find it easy to select cells to enter their UPC codes , ounces, or general data, multiplying or adding formulas are easy. I am thankful I recently had a computer programs refresher course last semester that taught how to edit spreadsheets. You can also sync your progress so you won't lose progress. This is a BIG plus to me! You don't know how many times I was using Microsoft Excel and my tablet died and my information was lost because it didn't sync! I had to return to the location and start back over and write the prices down during and after the tablet died again. Google sheets sync without me having to save anything. It even allows me to work offline, which is fantastic. Every edit/change is automatically updated and saved. I don't have to be connected to the internet and it still sync my sheets. I love Google sheets. I also use it for receipts and inventory for my online Clothing Boutique "Beauty Dior Divas". The color formats are great, I like the choice of change. I used sheets to analyze and graph my sales monthly. I help my mom with her business, I set up here monthly sales and chart her losses and gains to compare to the same month but previous year. I love the ease of sharing your sheets by email. My scheduler can edit the forms, if necessary.

Cons:

None, I have no problems with Google sheets.

An amazing Cloud Based spreadsheet

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: I use Google Sheets for various business functions including inventory management, budgetary analysis and various other processes. I may not be able to do as much of the 'heavy lifting' as other spreadsheets out there, but it certainly gets the job done. The best part is, it's free!

Pros:

1) Accessibility: You can access Google Sheets from any device at any time and continue working on a spreadsheet. This is because Google Sheets is cloud-based and your changes are saved in real-time. 2) Adaptability: If you've used MS Excel in the past, then using Google Sheets will be a piece of cake for you. 3) Document Sharing: Google Sheets makes it possible for you to share your spreadsheet with other people so that they can review your document in real-time. 4) Sharing Security Options: Not only is the spreadsheet sharing option an amazing feature, it also allows you to apply certain restrictions to the people you share your document with. For example, you may want someone to help you compose the document. You can give that person editing rights, as opposed to the 'view only' option where he can only view your spreadsheet without editing it.

Cons:

1) Internet Connectivity: Since Google Sheets is cloud-based, you're going to have to stay connected to the internet. Although you have the 'edit offline' option, you're going to have to be connected to an internet connection in case you've shared your work with someone and they are referring to it on a regular basis. 2) Confusion: There could be a lot of confusion when two people are working on the spreadsheet at the same time. However, if you're careful enough, then Google Sheets highlights the cell that each user is currently editing with different colours.

Solid Collaborative Spreadsheet Tool with the Essential Features

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Google sheets is an excellent collaborative spreadsheet tool that allows multiple users to work on the same spreadsheet concurrently without worrying about merging files later. Google sheets can be shared with specific people within your organization or the entire organization, and even people outside of your organization with this product. Colleagues can also request to spreadsheets to receive approved access, giving secure but not excessive security. Our company has had great success by building spreadsheets internally and then sharing the finished sheet with a client. We have also had success working on sheets collaboratively with a client in the past. The “see history” feature allows you to go back in time to see who changed what and revert to a previous copy should major mistakes be made. The product provides powerful formulas as well as a scripting language that can be leveraged. There is also conditional formatting. We use this to track numerical values, as well as check lists when doing client implementations, shared directly with clients. Google sheets is an excellent online tool that makes sense to use if you are already using Google products. It can be used to track progress on projects, initiatives and even client implementations successfully. It is a very light weight tool that does not take a lot effort to get set up and start working on right away.

Pros:

The formulas that Sheets provide have good documentation within the product, and there’s also documentation online to help understand the syntax and how to use each formula. For those who are used to excel you will need to get familiar with some of the changes, but there significant overlap. Powerful formulas such as Vlookup are also available which is nice if you are used to MS Excel. For those who have used VBA in Excel, you will have to relearn the scripting language that Google sheets provides. The scripting language is functional and fun to use however it is more like JavaScript then VBA. You will need to have prior development experience in order to leverage the scripting functionality, similar to how VBA works with Excel. For those in your company who are not excel power users, then they should see very little difference between Ms Excel and Google Sheets, and should be able to easily complete the job that they have to do within Google sheets. The sharing and collaboration features are good and what you would except from a tool used internally and with clients.

Cons:

The scripting language provided is useful however I have found VBA to be far more useful at this time. Certain features such as conditional formatting and other features from Microsoft Excel are either harder to use or not available in the Google Sheets right now which ultimately makes MS Excel my preferred choice if I’m doing “power user” work. Google sheets is likely to continue to improve and bridge the gap between itself and Excel, I still however would prefer to use Excel over Google sheets if no collaboration is required on a document. The user community is not as large as Excel’s, making it harder to get help online for certain issues.

Best web based spread sheet service available today

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: I couldn't operate without Sheets. It there for me any time I need it.

Pros:

Sheets constantly gets easier to use and regular feature updates are a welcome breath of fresh air over rigid desktop based applications. The Sheets addon marketplace is full of amazing enhancements, many of which are free. I use the service daily for all kinds of reports and calculations. Thanks to its interconnection to other Google apps I can easily tie in data from other apps and to other apps. The mobile version of Sheets is ok, but I don't expect a great user experience on a small screen when working in large, complex data sets. The built in integration of Google apps script enables power users to create their own functions and applications to really enhance and personalize the capabilities of Sheets. Being able to share and collaborate with data in real time is a huge benefit over desktop equivalent software.

Cons:

The learning curve for people familiar with Excel's UI can be challenging at first. Also getting used to the idea that the file lives in the cloud and can only be edited on a browser is a challenging concept for some people to understand.

Google Sheets is the Best Collaborative Spreadsheet Tool Now a Days

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I have been using Google Sheets for over 5 years now. No major issues so far. And it is very cost effective when comparing to the other spreadsheet solutions in the market. We don't have to put additional efforts to get familiar with google sheets. it has all the facilities as same as MS Excel. It has a very clean and useful interface. Not only that But also Google Sheets provides lots of Integration Options with 3rd Party Software and Systems in the market. Finally i should say this is a grate choice for any type of Businesses around the world to make their tasks much easier.

Pros:

Every user has a common knowledge about MS Excel since decades. The best thing that Google Sheets has is it provides all the Features and Functions that MS Excel provides. Sometimes more than that. Google sheets is a Cloud Based System. Which means anyone can access their google sheets anywhere in the world at anytime with out limitation. This should be the grate advantage of google sheets. Google sheets provides real time Editing and Sharing. That makes google sheets one of the best collaborative tools in the market today. And it is 100% Free to Use. Google sheets can be accessible via any device even your mobile phone or tablet.

Cons:

Sometimes we faced some formatting issues when we export our google sheets as a word document or pdf. Same thing happens when we import documents to google sheets.
