Power Tool for User Experience Optimization
Comments: Using Hotjar with my team and across the company has enabled us to make data-driven decisions, leading to optimized resource allocation and increased profitability.
Pros:
Hotjar can handle massive datasets and traffic, enabling granular user segmentation. Its seamless integration with other marketing tools provides deep insights into user behavior, allowing you to identify large-scale patterns and continually improve user experience.
Cons:
I've been very satisfied with this tool and haven't experienced any negative aspects.
Really interesting to see what user really do
Comments: We use hotjar when we launch a new feature or when we need improve some interface. It's really fun to see user action.
Pros:
Easy to set up. Useful to see what our user do on website or application. Possibility to start hotjar on event. The heatmap allow us to see some unclickable zone. Possibility to add notes on recording.
Cons:
It's not a problem with hotjar, but when we start to recording user action, we have a lot of recording to analyse. But always intersting to see what our users really do.
Tracking is constantly failing
Pros:
Just the fact of being able to record heat maps.
Cons:
Our account has been constantly going on and off with an alert about the tracking not being properly implemented. Later, without having changed anything seems to be resolved. It's been like this for 2 weeks now.
Comprehensive analytics
Comments: Combines qual and quant data, allowing businesses for experimentation and ultimately, optimisation. Excellent tool, highly recommend.
Pros:
Initially used it as part of green field platform launch - really helped us understand user behavior (via heatmaps, session recordings, conversion funnels), which is always useful, but particularly crucial this early on in the product lifecycle. Integration and use can be done by most non-techies, which gave us time and space to focus our engineers where it really mattered. Surveys are also available (though should be used sparingly as we quickly learned too many can also be annoying for the customer :d).
Cons:
not really a con, but performance is something to consider when integrating
Super in-depth website analytics tool
Comments: Straightforward tool to get setup and running, helps sell changes internally using data (e.g. how visitors actually use our websites).
Pros:
In-depth tools to monitor visitor usage on our website, helps provide data for us to make decisions!
Cons:
Would love to see more automated insights on the products - sometimes you end up setting up a number of tools but never find the time to assess them.
an insightful tool in a user researcher's toolbox
Comments: Hotjar is with it's heatmaps and recordings is a powerful tool for understanding user behavior.
Pros:
I like Hotjar's heatmaps and recordings since they provide good insights into user behaviour. Same for tracking funnels and conversion rates in the user journeys.
Cons:
I find integrating with google analytics to interpret users' behaviour a bit confusing. and also I don't see a specific merit in using Hotjar's survey tool instead of other products built specifically for surveys.
Sports Use
Comments: This has been a great product to utilize and we've found values in using the tool.
Pros:
I value the fact that theres a tool that provides the necessary insights to make UX decisions or website layouts.
Cons:
Its not as interactive as it can be when showing exactly what actions users take as a weighted consumer.
A lot to monitor!
Pros:
The ability to use the heatmaps to monitor UX and provide visual representation to offer design alternatives.
Cons:
Difficult to breakdown specific users where other platforms have the ability to breakdown from campaigns etc. may have been the package though.
Satisfaction
Comments: Really self explanatory and easy to access
Pros:
the level of genuine feedbacks i get, on how to improve my product is really impressive and also the integration.
Cons:
IT is quite pricy but as time goes on you will enjoy it because of the results it brings .
Great for keeping an eye on UX
Comments: Implemented by our Shopify developers, we use hot jar to improve UX by viewing recordings and monitoring post checkout surveys that come through to a slack channel.
Pros:
The post checkout survey is our main use for Hotjar. It was especially helpful during our transition from Adobe Commerce to Shopify. I also love that sessions our recorded so we can check any anomalies that pop up.
Cons:
No bad comments really, it provides some good insights at a decent price.
Alternatives Considered:
Great Heat-mapping Software
Comments: Hotjar has shown us critical user flow errors in the websites we manage, and has provided the information necessary to make calculated adjustments to our UI, resulting in a decrease in bounce rate and an increase in conversions and revenue. We definitely have ROI with our Hotjar spend.
Pros:
Hotjar is very easy to setup. Simply signup, install the JS snippet, configure your recordings and you're off & running. The heatmaping tool is good, and the ability to record user sessions is nice when auditing user flow and customer activity on a website. We have derived some very insightful optimizations from Hotjar, which have ultimately impacted our bottom line & generated more revenue for our company.
Cons:
The heatmapping visual report uses a generic resolution to capture the website image. The heatmap overlays are good, but we often need to re-capture a website snapshot, or reach out to support to get the map to match the click heatmaps. It is a minor annoyance, but overall the tool is very good at heatmapping and providing user flow and web traffic insights.

Hi, Thank for taking the time to review Hotjar. It's good to hear that you found Hotjar helpful in optimizing your websites. If you want to reach out to me at [email protected], I'd like to send you a small thank you for your review. Cheers, Sharon from Hotjar
Alternatives Considered:
Must have for qualitative research
Comments: Hotjar does exactly what I need: gives context to the issues I see in GA, and allows me to get into the mind of the user with greater depth.
Pros:
Heatmapping offers a whole new dimension of user behavior analysis, and Hotjar brings that to the masses. Installation is easy, setting up heatmaps is a snap, and results analysis is an easy task with the Hotjar interface. This has saved more of my precious time for true analysis, rather than setup and configuration
Cons:
On the smaller Hotjar plans, the cap at creating 3 heatmaps at a time feels restrictive. Often, I'd prefer setting up more heatmaps and using fewer of the other features available (surveys and polls). If there were plans I could recommend that only contained the right services for my clients (ex: heatmaps only for small clients, fullstack for larger ones), I would 100% do it. Crazy egg also has a sweet Chrome plugin which is not close to being replicated by Hotjar.

Hey Trevor, thanks for the review! Super to hear you're getting a lot of value from Hotjar. You can get unlimited heatmaps on our plus and business plans. You can find more information here https://www.hotjar.com/pricing Thanks again, Denis from the Hotjar team
By far, the best tool of this type!
Comments: Hotjar has been an important tool for our start-up, to user test different features on our website and monitor them.
Pros:
I've been using Hotjar for months and it's been a critical tool in finding important bugs on our website and fixing them quickly!
Cons:
Perhaps the price model isn't something that favours start-ups.
Hot jar application is best application
Comments: About hotjar experience well and good for real
Pros:
About hot jar application look videos and create
Cons:
In the hot jar application we can see feedback of videos
Hotjar review
Comments: Overall would recommend for the average user that likes to fill out surveys for minor rewards or gift cards, but it could take some time to earn some money
Pros:
This is an easy to use app that most people could easily figure out and use without a problem.
Cons:
I don't know if this happens for everybody but I get phased out of a lot of surveys for some reason.
Alternatives Considered:
I was a longtime Hotjar using before switching to Microsoft Clarity
Pros:
Hotjar was the first of its kind for me, opened up new doors and enabled me to gather data I couldn't previously get. I used it religiously on every single website I setup for clients and even personal websites, it was the best tool I found.
Cons:
Microsoft Clarity came along, offering the same features, for free. I wanted to stay with Hotjar as they'd always worked to improve their tool and the team were brilliant if I ever needed anything or had any questions but ultimately there wasn't much to differentiate Hotjar and Clarity so I decided the cost wasn't worth it for me.

New dimension for me
Pros:
I have learned a lot from customers thanks to Hotjar, a lot of things that would have gone unnoticed before. Heatmaps are a completely new way for me to think about data. I will use it more and more often
Cons:
The free version will always be (as they say), but for business needs you will have to turn to the paid ones
Get Ya A Hotjar
Comments: Hotjar is an exceptional analytics and user feedback platform that enables businesses to gain valuable insights into their website or app's performance.
Pros:
Hotjar makes it easy for our business to optimize its online presence and improve the user experience.
Cons:
Its slow loading times when using the software, can be frustrating for those trying to analyze data quickly.
Alternatives Considered:
A heatmapping software that does the job
Comments: It was overall good, but unfortunately not the best. Which is why we have made the switch.
Pros:
That it was priced quite cheaply to others. I think we received a discount too so I felt the relationship there was amazing.
Cons:
The heatmapping wasn't entirely accurate. It couldn't go beyond certain limits. Our website uses advanced code to be created but the heatmapping couldn't pick it up and forced us to do it manually.
Does what it needs to do
Comments: We are capturing feedback from our members right after they make a donation to our organization. This is a great way for us to know why our members support the organization. Being able to more accurately attribute them to individual members in our CRM would be very beneficial.
Pros:
We are only using this tool for post transaction surveys. Creating a quick survey and linking it to a landing page is very quick and easy. There are no widgets to install, you simply feed the tool the landing page URL and it will link the survey to the page. When your user hits the page, a request that they take a survey pops up. You are given the option to perform the pop-up on page load or with a slight delay. I can set up a new survey and link to it in under 10 minutes - and I can clone other surveys (though it is a little difficult to find this option). The documentation is pretty well done and has been helpful.
Cons:
The tool is not geared toward automation of the results. You can't edit a small typo in your questions, any changes and the tool automatically creates a new question and I believe deactivates the other. This means your results are now split into two columns. While I understand the logic behind this, there should be a way to simply edit a typo. I wish there was a way to have an internal name for the surveys so I can easily identify what and when I used a specific survey. I also wish there was a way to archive the results so that I am not reviewing already reviewed answers. I'm hoping there will be a more open api in the future so I could pass in an account id and pull the data directly from Hot Jar into my CRM.
Alternatives Considered:
Best for website visitor behavior analysis
Comments: It is outstanding for survey and forms purposes. Screen recording can be done easily using it.
Pros:
Customer behavior analysis is very crucial for any website. As a analyst, I need to analysis data and I found this software is very useful in this regard. Heatmapping is an excellent element of this software. It is very easy to set up . Efficient customer support available.
Cons:
A/B testing feature may be added.Event tracking record may be introduced.Price Little bit seems higher than others platform.
Effective for easy, quick and clear overview of webpage behavior
Comments: Been using it for 3 years now. For a low investment it gives you a sense of the effectiveness of your webpages. It is very easy to set up on your website and then it does the work for you. We implemented it when we renewed our website and when we changed menu's and core landingpages. Let it run for 3 to 6 months, so you have enough data, and then analyse and improve the visuals, text and structure of the webpages. Hotjar is a quick, easy and effective tool.
Pros:
Easy set up Quick integration with website (no tech support needed) Free plan to try out Creates heatmaps without asking
Cons:
Limited sessions per month on free Setting up funnels is difficult
This tool is simply extraordinary for providing excellent UX to visitors of website
Pros:
Very easy to use and adopt the tool. Has many features that enable companies to provide better UX within a product page or website. The heatmaps feature and screen recording are a great way of understanding the pain points of the customers. This product is not really expensive which is another best thing. Collecting surveys from the users is another best thing to look at what people think of the website, which helps us tackle any issues that they have faced.
Cons:
Setting up forms is not very straightforward although it does provide great value. The support team is not the best.

pricey, but worth it
Comments: Great tool. Ive used it to do surveys (NLP), heatmaps and AB testing when running product pages or landingpages for newsletter subscriptions. Helped me to eliminate some issues on mobiles. Currently I use different tool but Hotjar is still a tool that you need to try (even in free tier) to see how things should be done in other apps.
Pros:
+ extremely supportive and informative help/blog section with many types of how-to articles and guides + quick support that is helpful and points solutions very quickly + a lot of different tools packed in one app (it can be overwhelming!) + whole report section is great (especially heatmaps and surveys) + allows to collect feedback (helpful if you are migrating form one website layout to another) + helpful if you want to run AB test (ie. landingpage, product page etc) + free tier (not so informative but helpful)
Cons:
- too expensive comparing to competition (plans are also limited to number of sessions) - integrations are enabled from higher plans
capture the live user usage of your web product, and analyse the user experience
Comments: good experience, but i hope this dose not eat much of end users internet and hope it dos not reduces the web performance
Pros:
It capture a video of the user screen who is using the web product which is integrated with hotjar and store's it in clean directory structure it also stores meta data information of the user session which is really help full in analytics good documentation
Cons:
the captured data back up is maintained only for 90 days, it wold be better if they provide a permanent storage plan and the meta data collected are in file formate and they also stay for 90 days, we had to write scripts to dump these data in to sql tables for further analysation it wold be better if they provide a simple API to do this they do provide a good documentation for this dumping proses

Hi Mook, Thanks for taking the time to review Hotjar. We're happy to hear that you are finding Hotjar useful. I would interested to hear more about the data retention issues you experienced - Hotjar retains data for 365 days from the date the data is captured. We do not have any plans with 90-day data retention, so it would be good to dig deeper into your issue. You can reach me at [email protected] if you'd like to discuss further. I'd also like to offer you a little something as a thank you for your review. Cheers, Mike
