Hi FX Bayu, thanks for taking the time to review! We don't get a lot of requests for a desktop version of Baserow, but if our community members are interested, it's something we can look into. In the meantime, there are some solutions that turn web apps into "native" apps using wrappers. Suggest looking into that if it's of interest. Regarding views: Baserow has Grid (table) Kanban (board), and Calendar views available. Lastly: Be sure to enable rich text formatting when creating a Long Text field. That should help! –Hiram

Highly recommended visual database for long-term use
Comments: I enjoy using Baserow and am happy to be part of the community. Open-sourcing your own product is not always easy in terms of intellectual property and old-school business mindset. I've migrated from Airtable/SmartSuite to Baserow and use Baserow for summary and visual data management that works well with other databases like Cloudflare D1 and MongoDB (integrated with Make.com). When it comes to Application Builder that the Baserow team is currently working on, according to their webinar, they plan to integrate other data sources and to develop a chart/graph feature, so I'm looking forward to using it. (Competitors/alternatives could be not only Airtable, but also Retool and Softr) Overall, Baserow is a cost-effective and strategic solution for your digital transformation.
Pros:
- Cost effective from free to 5 USD per month - Simple and clean interface - Simple but useful API endpoints - Nice and supportive community - Application builder is evolving now - Open-source mindset and movement
Cons:
- Application builder could have more feature (expectation for the future) - Filters should be sent as POST request rather than a GET parameter

We're planning on having it out of public beta later this year, so if you have specific functionality recommendations, we're all ears. Hi Jamie, thanks for your review! Baserow is mobile friendly on the web, so you can use it on any browser. With that said, if our community feels that that a native mobile app would be helpful, it's something we can dive further into. More views are coming (see the roadmap), and it'd be great to hear how we can improve search. Drop us a line in the Baserow Community and let's discuss! -Hiram

Baserow is excellent
Comments: Overall the experience is very positive and there are people behind committed to making Baserow better.
Pros:
Baserow is simply excellent and we use it to manage all our marketing in one central place. It offers us an easy way to create a database, collect data and trigger automations via Make.com. Its a great and better alternative than Airtable. Also the fact that there is a self-hosted option, make this really attractive. We keep discovering new ways of using Baserow as we go, and we plan to use it as our central database to manage all kinds of activities.
Cons:
At some times it might be a bit cumbersome to understand how it works or to find the exact solution to your problem. However, we kept trying and thanks to the Baserow Community and their Support we always could figure it out.

Good, and improving
Comments: I believe a lot in Baserow, it's clearly not perfect yet, but it's far more reliable than Airtable for many use-cases (anything that is "backend-powered"). The product team is doing a good job, the tech team has mostly made great design decisions. Stuff could be better, but they're listening to their customers. I like to compare Baserow to Airtable, because they're very much alike UI-wise, and are meant for the same people, those who aren't necessarily deeply technical but who know how to design a DB. It's much more simpler than Supabase/Xano, and with the recent addition of the App Builder (Beta), it will become even better and usable by many more people.
Pros:
- I love the fact it's open-source - Easy to deploy on self-hosted server - API is great and well designed - UI is good, although not as good as Airtable - Writing Formulas is a pain (UX can be improved) - Lookup/Rollup behave strangely with relationships - App Builder is the future
Cons:
- Airtable UI is better/faster - Airtable provide more features (sync tables)

Free and easy to use
Comments: We have helped several clients who want to be able to edit spreadsheets and show that data in real time on an application set up base row. We have also helped several people move off of air table onto base road to save the money!
Pros:
Our team loves how easy it is to set up new tables and how cheap it is compared to Airtable!
Cons:
We prefer the cloud hosted option over the self hosted option, and don’t have a lot of negatives!

It's easy to create databases and project management systems
Comments: Overall I'm very happy with Baserow, and it allows me to deal with the information I need for a fair price.
Pros:
The huge ammount of field types, which allows the creation of very complete and complex information systems easily.
Cons:
On the premium plan (the middle plan) the number of rows per workspace (10.000) is very low. This number should be higher.

Hi João, thanks for reviewing Baserow! We've taken note of your request regarding Premium's row limit. I'll pass this on to the product team to discuss. Sounds like you're making great use of Baserow's field types to get a grip on your complex data sets. Nice! -Hiram
Why did I ever use Airtable?
Comments: Great for managing all the data in dev and organize it before putting it in our primary database.
Pros:
Infinite rows. Needed in products like these.
Cons:
The load time, the lack of Google cloud setup support, every so often it'll be buggy and I'm not sure what resources to upgrade - does it need more memory? A larger machine? Another instance? That feedback would be remarkable.

Great tool for Recruitment business
Comments: Our main business tool that does not limit us.
Pros:
What I like most about Baserow is the ease of usage and ease of receiving updates (Docker). The cool thing also is that the core development team is really not lazy folks, but constantly roll out useful features (like recently the App builder). Self-hosting option is also something I feel safer with.
Cons:
The slow community support and the fact that premium payers don't get premium support. Can't create sort filters with Lookup columns :/ Sometimes issues with file uploads that it does not work always.

Hi Andris, thanks for your in-depth review. Always nice to see people break free from row and storage limits with Baserow Self-Hosted. And yes, big things coming on the Application Builder side! With regards to applying filters on Lookup fields: You're right that the Lookup field is greyed out when creating a filter. However, there's an easy workaround for this. Create a new Formula field with the lookup() function. Then, wrap the join() function around it. For example, try this formula in the `Key results` table within the Business Goal Tracker template: join(lookup('Objective ID', 'Department'),''). This turns the departments into strings, which you can then apply filters to. Nevertheless, our product team is aware that we need to make this a little more intuitive so you can filter directly from a Lookup field, without the need to create a separate Formula field. Feel free to drop us a line if we can help with anything else! -Hiram

Build a database without programming skills
Comments: Great, we are so thankful that this is available free of charge.
Pros:
My [sensitive content hidden] and I were in need of a low-cost solution for managing thousands of data points to track seed accessions for ecological restoration. We were losing data with Google sheets and unable to cross-reference collection data, seed farming and overall lifecycle of seed lots. We tried a costly database used by large-scale seed farmers and it didn't meet our needs; it was slow, the interface was ancient and the workflow was not intuitive. Baserow is elegant, super fast and intuitive to use.
Cons:
There is a learning curve; however compared to the time we would have invested in learning Python or another programming language to custom-build a database, this is much faster.

Excellent Platform for Backend use
Pros:
Baserow implementation was fast and cost effective both as it took us barely 30 minutes to transition from our retro database, Airtable to Baserow.
Cons:
Documentation should have examples for Java and Kotlin used in Android Development. Android holds a substantial share in app development market. So examples for them should be given and if possible, an Android SDK be developed and maintained.

Success on day one
Pros:
From day one, we were able to structure the idea in spreadsheets. When we were done, we had a fully functional backend and it was just a matter of building the app and the website. That's all!
Cons:
That we didn’t use it much earlier, due to it’s ease of use and scalability.

Pros:

Comments: A very positive experience so far using the free tier to create an inventory for managing an estate.
Pros:

Excellent tlTool for Multi Variable Cataloging
Pros:
Baserow is the most affordable software on the market that allows for easily creating a highly customizable, multi variable catalog of items and even has the capacity to include photos. I use it to create and sort lists of hundreds of items and props and organize them by all the scenes that they play in. When the scheduled day for a scene changes, with a few simple clicks, I can change the day that scene was slated to shoot on and all the dozens of not hundreds of props associated with that scene shift to the new day. It has shaved so much time off of managing itemized lists.
Cons:
The interface on mobile or tablet is a bit crowded. But I understand that is also somewhat because of how I use the product out in the field. I feel like the card view could have more formating or vanity organizational options.
