Indispensable tool

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: Mendeley is great for me as a post-grad researcher. I can easily keep track of research papers in one place, edit the bibliographic details and create reference lists.

Pros:

Keeps all papers together Integration with word Can import directly from Safari or Chrome Saves a lot of time

Cons:

When initially logged in comes up with a search screen, but I cannot reaccess this once in my library. This facility should be easier to access.

Best reference manager in my experience

5.0 3 years ago

Pros:

The google extension to add references is useful. Once I use this, I can go back into the Mendeley desktop app and sync it and it appears. I also like that you can download citations in different formats (.ris, etc) and can drag and drop into Mendeley desktop for a quick import. It works well with Word to add references while writing.

Cons:

I don't like that the Mendeley window disappears when I add a reference in Word. Sometimes I search references by topic/author but I have to copy a list of the references I need to add into a note because Mendeley disappears while I add the references. I wish it would simply remain in the background so I can see my reference list while I'm adding references.

Have been using this for 8 years, looking for new one to switch to

3.0 last year

Comments: I am a daily user of this software but would love to have something up-to-date regarding its functionality.

Pros:

I can access articles from any device and conveniently add interesting papers to my database using a web browser extension. I have the ability to write notes directly on PDFs and interact with the document as if it were a printed version. This includes underlining important sections and adding notes alongside, all while remaining connected to the specific article.

Cons:

I am disappointed to find that the software lacks a crucial feature that I had anticipated - the ability to conduct comprehensive searches within the content of my papers. Regrettably, the search functionality is limited to article titles, and it does not even accommodate partial word matches. Specifically, one must input the exact term, such as "biochemistry," to yield any results, whereas a partial term like "bio" fails to produce any relevant outcomes. I communicated this concern to the software issuer four years ago, who mentioned they were working on addressing this issue. Yet, despite the advancements in the field of artificial intelligence, it appears that no progress has been made in this regard. Additionally, the software does not allow for exporting the entire database with annotations, necessitating a time-consuming process of exporting them one by one. As a result, switching to a different application would mean losing years' worth of work.

"Mendeley" is the best Reference Management application for Researchers and Academics

5.0 3 months ago

Comments: At first, I was confused when looking for and writing references for the paper I wrote as a result of my research. I had to write it manually, and the content was very tiring and tedious because it took a long time to complete. I got information from another researcher friend that Mendeley will speed up the preparation and organization of references. I tried the free version—wow, it's amazing!!! In a short time, my paper references were neatly arranged, and I was very happy using Mendeley.

Pros:

I like Mendeley : 1. A reference management application that is very popular among researchers and academics 2. Easy to use 3. Has a Free Version 4. Good organization of references 5. Intestable

Cons:

Disadvantages: 1. Limited features for the Free version 2. Expensive for the premium version I hope Mendeley can lower the price

Great!

5.0 3 years ago

Pros:

This is an obligatory tool to every researcher. What I like most about Mendeley is the web browser extension (so you can easily add a reference and the paper pdf to your library), and the online integration (you can access your library wherever you are. Also, the online community and the option to create groups are good).

Cons:

The only con I can think of is the limitation of people when you create a group to share papers. Also, the comments that each user writes in a shared paper are not always available for others to see, which misses the point of creating a group.

A solid but limited reference manager

4.0 2 years ago

Comments: Mendeley helps me stay organised as it manages all my pdf files seamlessly. Annotations options could be improved.

Pros:

Mendeley is an amazing low-cost solution for anybody who is looking for a reference manager. Software used to be available as an installable app but is now being phased out and a lighter version is available now. I love how Mendeley helps with my citations as it integrates seamlessly with Word and helps build amazing citations and tables of reference.

Cons:

Annotation options are very limited. App allows you to add simple comments and highlight texts. There is no way to add arrows or any other symbols to your pdfs. There used to be a mobile app available that would synchronise with main Mendeley library but now it is not possible to run the app on your tablet. The desktop app logs you out very often and I find it annoying to have to log in every time.

Mendeley Elsevier

4.0 10 months ago

Pros:

Mendeley isa very good assistant while I am writing articles. I use it to easily generate my quotes and reference list based on the style I need. You just need to import the different sources in your library and the the app take the remaining in charge

Cons:

My only problems are related to the fact that, when you change your device, even though you are connected, you lose your files, you just have their names. Also, with some pdf, it is impossible to auto generate the quote and reference and sometimes, the add-in refuse to be integrated to Microsoft Office Word

The best known but not the best

3.0 3 years ago

Comments: I have used Mendeley for many years since my graduation in computer engineering. However, on the occasion of my master's degree, it became necessary to replace the tool with another one that better met my needs as a researcher.

Pros:

I don't have much to say about Mendeley. The only advantage of using this tool is that it is a well-known tool that is used around the world in the academic world, and is therefore a good alternative for cooperating with teams. The low cost is also a positive point, although there are other low cost alternatives and others with a higher cost but with better quality.

Cons:

The tool is not the best by any criteria. It's not the easiest to use, nor is it a tool that despite being difficult makes up for the learning curve. That's not the case. The interface is ugly, old and difficult to understand.

The perfect tool for bibliography management

5.0 9 months ago

Comments: Mendeley has proven to be a cornerstone of my thesis-writing. Whether I'm storing articles for future revision, making notes for my thesis, or managing citations, Mendeley handles it all with an ease.

Pros:

Mendeley simplifies the daunting task of organizing and formatting references during my Thesis writing as a researcher in university. Its interface is intutive. Something I like from this tool is that it allows me to effortlessly import references from various databases, and the automatic citation feature.

Cons:

I have not found any important drawback. However, occasional slow sync times occurs.

My referencing assistant

5.0 last year

Comments: Since I started using Mendeley for my Masters thesis, it has made my referencing a lot less frustrating and makes my paper writing much faster. I would definitely recommend Mendeley to anyone in the academic world, and to all students who have to frequently write and cite their source. For a free software, it sure does make my work more efficient.

Pros:

The ability to cite and add references with ease and being able to tailor these for a paper using the referencing style of the preferred journal for publication. Also love how it makes collaborations easy by sharing projects with colleagues. It also allows for better organization of papers and their references. And easy to import citations with a quick click.

Cons:

It frustrates me that the software cannot detect when a citation is a duplicate, at time ending up with two citations of the same source. It also sucks that I have to double check all the references manually because the automatic reference generator is not always accurate, at times missing some information.

Mendeley

4.0 2 years ago

Pros:

Mendeley provides me with many features. I started using the program 2 years ago. It is an incredible thing to be able to search that database over the internet and access related articles, and to be able to show the bibliography of these articles in the same program. At first I thought it would be difficult to learn, but it has a very easy interface. I especially downloaded it to my computer and use it with word. It helps me a lot when citing, and when the journals ask me to edit the bibliography of my article in a different format, I can do it in a short time in Mendeley. it also feels good to be able to separate them in the folder. With the Chrome extension, I can save files that I access from different sites in a short time with a single click on Mendele.

Cons:

The places that I found to be improved in the program are the problems I had when I added the file manually. I often encounter problems such as incorrectly titled, article year, etc., probably due to the written language of the file. I have to enter them all myself and of course I have to check. Therefore, multi-language detection feature can be added. Also, in the program, when citing, I have to do two operations for the page insertion part. I wish this could be added in the easier way. Not everyone knows this feature.

Used to be a solid product with strong features, now it is just a hollow shell

1.0 2 years ago

Comments: As an earlier adopter to Mendeley, I benefitted by greater storage capacity. I was a strong advocate for Mendeley and used it constantly to collaborate with my research team for nearly two decades. Now, I sadly wish to find something else. If only everyone on my team used the same OS as I do (macOS and iPadOS in this case), I would have a far better solution.Mendeley may be again worth touting only when it regains its previous features.

Pros:

Mendeley can still provide an effective way to share references and journal articles effectively among team members.

Cons:

Significant features have been removed since the most recent major revision was released. No longer can you define how to store citations locally. No longer can you find and merge duplicates. No longer can you sort the list based on flagged citations. No longer can you easily (if at all) simply remove a citation from a group. In addition, the iPadOS version has been removed. No longer can you read citations on an iPad without being on-line. The list goes one.One is struck not by only the loss of previous features but also by the annoying bugs in existing features. Type in a search term that is not existent in the database. Nothing found. Now try to recover the entire list. You have to type a new search term and remove it.It is as though Mendeley is undergoing a nuke and repave development process, but Elsevier is distributing grossly raw alpha versions that have empty, one-story shacks where there were once solid, well-designed, highly functional skyscrapers.

Impossible to merge citations

3.0 last year

Comments: Very good with the old version. A nightmare with the current one.

Pros:

Not much from the new version. It does not improve the main feature, which is to use references in a document.

Cons:

I am using many hours of work (not finished yet) trying to modify a document prepared with the old Mendely, which was quite user-friendly. I had a few references duplicated and the new version does to allow to merge duplicates: they must be deleted. But then the software is not able to update the new databse: it hungs. Another major problem is that you must be logged into Elsevier, meaning that you cannot work offline in your document.

hard to use but i need it

3.0 last year

Comments: It's ok - i think the continous having to log in again and the having to refresh in word if you add a new source is quite annoying.

Pros:

I like that it just formats my bibliogrpahy once i have the source in there and that i can add it to microscoft word

Cons:

i think it's unfortunate that i can't search for key words that i might safe with that source someitmes i dont remember the title of the paper and would like to add some notes that i can search for.

Bon voyage Mendely, Hello Zotero

1.0 2 years ago

Pros:

I liked Mendeley back when I first started using it in 2013. It was free and offered a lot of great functionality (word plug-in) but over the years I noticed that the support has become less and less robust and the interface has gotten very buggy.

Cons:

I have been a loyal user of Mendeley since I started graduate school (2013) but am now transitioning over to Zotero after what I can only describe as a horrible user interface. Ever since Elsevier took over, the software has gone from average to barely usable. For example, it took me a while to figure out (no thanks to Mendely, thanks to a reddit user) how to remove the Desktop manager plug-in from word because uninstalling the app did not remove that plug-in for some reason and the Mendeley website offered ZERO support on how to disable and delete that plug-in.

My time-saving to do a references list

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I highly recommend Mendeley to anyone who wants to optimize their research paper organization and save time in the process. The benefits of using this software far outweigh any minor inconveniences, and I have found it to be an essential tool for my academic work.

Pros:

Mendeley has been a game-changer for me in terms of organizing my research papers. All my papers are stored in one place and can be accessed on any device using my Mendeley account. I also love the Mendeley extension, which makes it easy to download papers directly from Elsevier and quickly add them to my library. The best feature is the automatic reference list creation, which saves me a lot of time and hassle when writing papers in the correct format.

Cons:

The only downside is that sometimes Mendeley is unable to extract all the necessary paper information automatically, such as the authors and date, and requires manual input. However, this is a rare occurrence, and most of the time, the information is extracted automatically.

Great software that is on the downhill

3.0 2 years ago

Pros:

Mendeley is intuitive and easy to use. I have used the software for years and have enjoyed the annotation feature and ease with which I can use word plug-ins and the various import tools.

Cons:

Unfortunately, since Elsevier have taken over Mendeley it is clear there is less investment in the software. Firstly, deleting the iOS app has been a big reason for why I am looking at other reference managers. I used this app to mark up papers which was hugely important to me. The login process is now unnecessarily cumbersome and I am constantly being logged out. There is also fewer opportunities for various plugins to other software (eg Obsidian).

Avoid Plagiarism with Mendeley

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: Mendeley has helped me a lot from when I was a student. Mendeley has really helped my academic research works. Overall Mendeley is a great software which I highly recommend to anyone working on their research paper for citation purposes and many more.

Pros:

Mendeley software is very useful to all academic and scholarly materials. To avoid plagiarism in academic publication. The software gives me the option of choosing from the various citation styles and give credit to authors of referenced publication. The software automatically selects the publication to be cited in the Mendeley software and generates the in-text and bibliographic data. Also, the integration of the software and Microsoft word makes it very easy for me to work on my academic papers.

Cons:

Sometimes I really find it difficult to get the details of my articles even when I'm online.

Mendeley for your Data !

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: As for me, I relied on Mendeley a lot during my doctoral studies to prepare my various research papers, and he was very helpful in that.
I recently discovered that I can rely on it effectively in preparing my practical and marketing reports, organizing my data and even qualitative analysis, and I plan to rely on it more at work as it is a useful and inexpensive way

Pros:

The application is often used by the academic community such as university professors and doctoral students, however, it can be used for various purposes in the field of business. The Mendeley application gives your reports greater reliability, transparency, and organization of different information sources, that is, it helps to prepare professional reports. Moreover, it is a popular way to organize and analyze your information, especially qualitative information that is difficult to organize and arrange compared to quantitative information. The application is free, so it is available to almost everyone, and it is easy to use, as it is enough to practice it a little to master it.

Cons:

It needs more comprehensiveness and flexibility in the way the data entered is presented I think it is very important to provide multiple options for displaying data in the way that the user and the customer prefer

Manage thousands of sources and citations with one tool

5.0 2 years ago

Comments: I recommend everyone I know to use Mendeley from the early stages of their academic studies. Using Mendeley has given me tremendous ease in organizing my library as well as creating citations and bibliographies.

Pros:

Mendeley is a user-friendly software. Its interface is quiet simple and provides access to many useful functions. Mendeley can be learned in a hours and makes things that take days in traditional ways much easier.

Cons:

I think software development can progress faster. Of course, there is no downside to this. It already does what an academic or a researcher needs.

I have already recommended Mendeley to my research team!

5.0 last year

Pros:

The feature that I have appreciated most about Mendeley over the past few years is the integration with citations and the MS Word plugin. This can be a very difficult aspect of a manuscript to manage and Mendeley Cite has saved me hours of work. The web importer has also been a favourite tool.

Cons:

There was one journal that I submitted a manuscript to that required a unique variation on a common citation style. It was not easy to adjust one small item from one of the templates. Thankfully, a colleague new code and was able to adjust it for me somehow. That process could have been a little more intuitive.

Excellent reference manager

4.0 last year

Comments: Would recommend

Pros:

How easy it is to cite references and refresh the bibliography or select styles according to your publication needs.

Cons:

Sometimes the size of the font within Mendeley is too small and cannot be easily changed.
